Thanks Fraida. Eiders are primarily a northern bird. They're famous for their down feathers. They harvest the feathers by removing them from nests (without harming the bird or nest). The feathers are nature's perfect insulator. The adult males are nothing short of spectacular when they're decked out in their breeding colors.
